Phnom Penh: On Saturday morning, December 7, 2024, Samdech Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, opened the 20th Assembly of the Council for Islamic Propagation in Southeast Asia and the Pacific (RISEAP). In his address, the Prime Minister acknowledged the significant contributions of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the former Prime Minister and current President of the Senate, in fostering long-term peace and stability in Cambodia. He emphasized that these elements are crucial for the nation's development and for ensuring ethnic and religious harmony.
Prime Minister Hun Manet highlighted that the peace and stability achieved in Cambodia have enabled the country to host several major international events, including the current assembly. He underscored that promoting religious harmony is deeply ingrained in the principles of the Cambodian People’s Party, stating that successive terms of the Royal Government have consistently upheld this commitment.
The Prime Minister noted the active participation of Khmer Muslims within the Royal Government, including representation in the Senate, National Assembly, and various governmental roles. He acknowledged their contributions at both national and sub-national levels, including positions within the armed forces.
In his remarks, Hun Manet also pointed out the government's efforts to preserve the traditions and religious practices of the Khmer Muslim community. Since 2014, the Royal Government has facilitated the preparation of large-scale Ramadan Iftar meals, reflecting a commitment to inclusivity. He reaffirmed the rights of Khmer Muslims to enjoy complete freedom in their clothing, access to education, and medical services.
Concluding his address, Prime Minister Hun Manet reiterated that Cambodia's peace, socio-economic advancement, and dynamic international relations have opened avenues for Khmer Muslims to gain knowledge in Islamic studies, as well as technical, scientific, and technological skills across various partner nations worldwide.
